Stables
Enhance Programs are designed for a Youth and their supports/family. These programs are helpful to increase communication, build trust and develop a stronger relationship. A family going through a transition, facing behavioral challenges or just wanting to strengthen their overall relationship would excel in these programs. This program is often utilized and beneficial for Foster families. Whether there are challenges with current Youth in their care or preparing to welcome a new Child into their home there are two ways we can run these programs.
Youth Led
The Youth attends the first few sessions solo then the family joins halfway through for the remaining programs. This allows the Youth to build a rapport with our Youth Mentor, develop horsemanship skills and familiarize themselves with our programs. Then when the Family joins the Youth helps teach them the Programs. Introduces the horses, teaches them how to groom properly, how to read the horse's body language, etc. It is empowering for a Youth to be the expert in something and can encourage them to advocate for themselves while working through existing family issues. This can also provide a neutral environment for all Participants to get to know each other if the Youth is transitioning into a new placement/living situation.
Family Led - Team building
All members of the Family or Support System participate in the programs. Everyone is an equal member of the team who will work together to complete ground work obstacles with their horse. In doing so they will improve communication, problem-solving, negotiation, self-advocacy skills and increase their empathy towards each other.
Both sessions include group debriefing, journaling, and optional homework/tasks to further promote each life skill for the Family to complete together on their own time.
